The ceremony for the completion of the shipyard was an answer from heaven to the man who dared to ask, "Have you done it yourself?" A managing director for ship engines at Hyundai called his engineers "the country��s treasure." They are making 35 percent of engines for the world market. When I visited Hyundai, the engineers were still working on the Aegis ship. Korean Navy's first 2,000-ton-class convoy ship was produced right here in 1980. Afterwards, about 60 more naval ships were built here. They are still defending the country's seas. Before my eyes, the country's most powerful battleship is undergoing the finishing touches. A U-214 submarine will also be built here. A young engineer seemed troubled by over something, overlooking the Aegis ship.
